Retractable parking space

Brief explanation

A retractable parking space is a parking facility for a vehicle that lowers the original above-ground parking space to a lower level. The roof over the parking space creates a ground-level finish in a sunken state.

Detailed information

Together with the roof of the structure, the floor level forms a hydraulic lifting table that can be lowered into the pit below. This variant therefore represents the simplest form for the use of a hydraulic lift table. Unlike the retractable garage, there is no underground access to the vehicle. When lowered, the ceiling serves as a surface and can be designed and used in a wide variety of ways. This use can of course also consist of parking another vehicle.

Variants

A retractable parking space naturally impresses with its simplicity and thus differs from the more complex parking systems with lifting and sliding devices. In principle, the basic construction allows more than just two floors to be created. Implementation can be examined on a case-by-case basis and may well make sense.

Possible applications

Basically, there are 3 important reasons why a retractable parking space is an optimal solution. On the one hand, there is the aspect of protection against both theft and damage. A vehicle that is neither visible nor accessible cannot become the target of attacks and environmental influences.

Another important point is of course the space saving. A parked car in a frequently used area, such as a narrow driveway, can be constantly in the way when parked. A retractable parking space is an elegant solution to this problem.

Last but not least, this is also a good idea for aesthetic reasons. The appearance of a property or a listed building can benefit greatly from this. Sometimes a retractable parking space can even be the only legally possible solution to a parking problem directly on site, especially with regard to listed buildings.
