Brief explanation
Duplex parking systems double the existing parking space by placing a second level above it. The shelves can be moved up or down in a vertical direction. This is possible for single parking spaces as well as for two adjacent parking spaces.
Detailed information
The basic structure is quite simple in principle. In place of the original ground-level parking lot, a structure with at least two levels has been installed, which can be lowered or raised using the control element built into the wall. This allows you to position the level on which either the vehicle is parked or a free space is available. In addition to the engaged gear and the handbrake, brake triangles ensure that the vehicle is safely parked.
Variants
Duplex parking systems have now been developed in different variations. The simplest form is the so-called stack parking, where only the upper platform can be moved. The lower parking space must therefore be empty in order to use the upper level.
In order to be able to use both levels independently of each other, the construction requires space both at the bottom and at the top so that the levels, including the vehicle, can be moved either up or down. This means that a pit is required and, in an underground garage, sufficient space in the ceiling.
There are also differences in size. There are duplex parking systems with a single platform or with a double platform. Those with 3 floors are also possible. Special equipment with the corresponding extras is available for e-mobility or motorcycles.
Possible applications
Duplex parking systems also have numerous applications in the private sector. However, they are most frequently used in the underground garages or parking garages of larger building complexes. With optimal utilization, the number of parking spaces normally available can be practically doubled. And without having to walk long distances to a parking lot that may be outside.
